Getting Around St Louis:

From the St Louis airport (STL) you can take the Metro-Link to pretty much any place downtown and some of St Louis County.  You can buy tickets at the airport.  Follow the signs for the Metro-Link.  Once you get your ticket you can continue on to the train, which will take you towards downtown St Louis (Shiloh-Scott).  At some point, an attendant will walk through the cabin and check for tickets.  To reach the Galleria (where I am located) or parts of St Louis county, you will need to transfer to another line (the west bound line is Shrewsbury-Lansdowne) and get off at the Richmond Heights Station.  The Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station is likely the best transfer point.  You can view a schematic map here.  The Metro-Link runs from about 4:30/5:00am until ~12:30/1:00am depending on the day.  If you are traveling at odd hours, check the timetables. 



Food/Cafe:

La Dolce Via - 4470 Arco Ave; St Louis, MO 63110

This is a great little cafe in Forest Park SE.  Best scones in town, and likely the US.  Excellent brunch, cool staff and overall a really nice atmosphere.  Highly recommended!


Kayaks - 276 N Skinker; St Louis, MO 63130

Cool cafe on Forest Park at Skinker.  Free WiFi, close to Wash-U. 


Kaldi's - 700 DeMun; Clayton, MO 63105

The original Kaldi's Cafe in DeMun.  Offers vegetarian fare and really good coffee.  Tucked in off the main drag, close to Wash-U. Usually cramped and crowded; lacks space and inside the building, but the coffee is great.   


Moxy - 4584 Laclede, St Louis, MO 63108

Moxy, owned by Chef Eric Brenner, is a fabulous Bistro in the Central West End.  Excellent food, great staff and a really cool place overall.  This is by far one of my favorite places to eat and just kick back. 


Sasha's Wine Bar - 706 De Mun Ave Clayton, MO 63105

Nice wine bar, good food, small menu.  I like their crepes.  Brunch on Sunday. 314-863-7274



The Gelateria - 1327 Washington Ave; St Louis, MO 63103

Venues: (incomplete listing)

These are venues that I have personally booked and used for workshops or milongas that I have hosted. 


Floored - 3190 S Grand; St Louis, MO  63118

Nice space for milongas.  The space is typically booked for classes during the evening and on the weekends.  Floor is pretty slick.  Management was cool and nice to work with.  I enjoy dancing at this space. 



Shaw's Gallery - 4065 Shaw Ave, St Louis MO (Shaw and Thurman)

Really nice wood floor in a cool photo gallery owed by Nathan Clark.  This is where I currently hold my Tuesday evening classes. 



Utopia - 3957 Park; St Louis, MO  63110

This is a funky music rehearsal studio that also has one dance studio for rent on an hourly basis.  Some people love it, while others aren't so keen.  It definitely falls in the alternative genre.  Funky, cheap, space with cool management.  Personally, I like it for what it is and the people that run it are really nice.  The down side is that you may end up with a heavy metal band practicing in the next room.  If you voice your concerns with the management, they will do their best to book rooms further away from the dance studio first.  The floor is a little sticky... powder or hard leather soles might be the answer.  Location is in a warehouse district.
